Stand Up! at the DC Emancipation Day Parade

To celebrate the 150th Anniversary of DC Emancipation - the Parade is BACK! This is the first time in several years that DC will hold the official DC Emancipation Day Parade and we invite you to join our contingent. We will be marching both to honor the 3,100 who gained their freedom and to continue our demand for political freedom - DC Statehood. Parade organizers are seeking 3,100 "Grand Marshals" to represent those 3,100 enslaved persons who were emancipated. Please let us know if you and/or your organization* will march with us on Monday, April 16, 2012.

To join us look for the Free DC banner. We encourage people to dress in clothing of the period - some of us will wear chains to symbolize the enslavement.
